Krosno

Krosno – the former capital of the Province of Krosno, numbers approx. 46 600 inhabitants. Due to the rich traditions related to the glass industry, it is called the Glass City. Today, the Krosno Glass S.A. glassworks operate here, offering widely appreciated decorative glass and the no less known Glass Heritage Center, which offers its guests workshops, allowing everyone to taste this difficult profession.

The city center is a charming Market Square surrounded by bourgeois tenement houses with beautiful arcaded arcades with numerous cafes and restaurants. Similarly, the market square teemed with life in the golden age, when the city was called Mały Kraków (Parva Cracovia).

In the cavernous cellars of tenement houses, it is here, once stored wine from Hungary, also the one that the famous Scotsman brought to Krosno, Wojciech Portius. He made a huge fortune from the wine trade, so he could fund monuments that are still admired today.

While in Krosno, it is worth visiting the parish church of Holy Trinity, with a unique painting decoration on a national scale and a magnificent Portius chapel. Next to the temple, a charming parish tower is open to visitors, funded by Portius, and the Urban bell is located on it, one of the largest in Poland. You must also see the Franciscan church, the oldest in the voivodeship, and the beautiful Oświęcim chapel, with Falconi stuccoes and the legend of unhappy love added to it.

Every year, on the first weekend in May, the Mountain Balloon Competition takes place in Krosno, and in August, the Carpathian Climates are organized with the inherent Hungarian Wine Festival. From the city center, follow the green trail to the ruins of Kamieniec Castle.
