The village was completely destroyed during both World War I and World War II. However, it was rebuilt every time. There is a Makovica natural swimming pool in the village. The bath can seat 1500 – 2000 people and offers a swimming pool of 60 x 100 m. There is also a two-level jumping bridge (2 m and 4,5 m). 70% of the area is dedicated for swimming. There are three buffets here. The Nižná Polianka/Makovica ski resort is also situated in the village. There are 2 lifts with a total transport capacity of 1732 people per hour. The ski run is 950 meters length and 186 meters high. Difficulty - red. The fast lift Poma H 130 takes you up in 3 minutes. The whole slope is illuminated. Parents with children have the opportunity to use the children's lift, or a ski school, which are situated on the territory of the resort.
