Vyšná Pisaná

During World War I heavy fighting took place in this area. A relic of them is a military cemetery situated in the municipal cemetery.

During liberation battles at the end of the World War II, after failed attempts to pass through the necking over Krajná Poľana village, the Soviet command decided to change the direction of the main impact. Using the road built for tanks, they transported the tanks to Vyšná Pisaná through a wooded border crest. There was an attack that turned into the largest armored battle on Slovak territory. German cannons that cannonaded upcoming liberation armies turned Vyšná Pisaná village into ruins. As a result of the extremely high number of soldiers killed, the valley was called the "Death valley”.
