Baranie

Baranie, in the Slovak language, Stavok, is the highest peak located in the border range in the Dukla Beskidy. The name Baranie is probably related to the name of a hamlet of the neighboring village of Olchowiec; also, the nearby stream is called Baranie.

Until 2000, there was a metal tower on the top, erected there during World War II by the Germans, but in the winter of 2000/2001, it collapsed, and its remains remained on Baranie for a few more years. It was replaced by a 14-meter-high wooden structure, put into use in 2006 on the initiative of the Slovak side, which once again offered the opportunity to admire one of the most beautiful panoramas in the Low Beskids. In good weather, it was possible to admire the Foothills and the Bieszczady Mountains or the Vihorlat and Slanske Vrchy ranges located on the Slovak side and the Belianske Tatras and the High Tatras. Unfortunately, the tower was demolished at the end of April 2019 because of the bad technical condition. The rain protection shelter was built on the top.

Baranie is a junction of trails, the blue border trail, the red Slovakian, the yellow from Tylawa to Wyżna Pisana run through the peak.
