The church in Chmiel built in 190r, is a former Greek Catholic Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas. As a result of population displacement in 1947 the churchhas been abandoned and later served, among others, as a fire brigade warehouse. In 1969 it was taken over by the Roman Catholic Church and now serves as a affiliated church. Chmiel is a small town located at the foot of Otryt, between Dwernik and Sękowiec. The current Orthodox church is the third one built in this place. It is wooden, tripartite with a log frame structure, covered with sheet metal. Above the nave there is a dome, while above the vestibule and the presbytery are small towers. Next to it, in the cemetery under a roof in the form of a replica of the upper part of the belfry, one can see the oldest tombstone in the Bieszczady – Fieronia nee Dubrawska Orlicka from 1644. Inscriptions were placed on it in the Old Church Slavonic language and the coat of arms identified most often as Sas, however, it is not certain. The Orthodox church is known of the episode related to filming here Raszków fire in the film "Mr. Wołodyjowski" by J. Hoffman in 1968.
