Astronomical Observatory (Kolonické sedlo)

Astronomical Observatory on Kolonica Pass is located in the area with very low levels of light pollution. Thanks to this, it is an extremely good place for astronomical observations not only for visitors, but also for the purposes of specialist works.

The origins of the observatory date back to 1986, when astronomers from Hummene discovered this place to observe Mercury's passage through the solar disk. Humenne’s growing pollution and the view on the starry star night sky convinced them to start building an astronomical observatory here. Due to the expansion of equipment and construction of the main building and planetarium the observatory has grown to today's size.

The number of visible stars without a telescope in a dark sky park is as much as 2 000. In cities there are 200, and in large cities only 20.
