The Zwiezło Nature Reserve, The Duszatyńskie Lakes

Zwiezło inanimate nature reserve is located directly on the route of the red Main Beskids Trail, on the western slopes of Chryszczata. The Nature Reserve was established in 1957 and covers almost 2 ha area. At present the Nature Reserve protects two and formerly three lakes, called Duszatyńskie Lakes. In 1907 after sustained rainfalls, the shale layers soaked with water became the ground, on which the rock layers slipped (zwiezły), separating Olchowaty stream, resulting in formation of 3 landslide lakes. The landslide on Chryszczata is the largest one in the Polish Carpathians in terms of displaced material (approx. 12 million m3 of rock and soil) and the second after the landslide in Szymbark (Beskid Niski) in terms of area (approx. 36 ha).

Smaller of the lakes, called Dolne (The Lower), is located at a height of 683 m and the second - larger, called Górne (The Upper), is situated 18 m above. At the request of the owner of that time of the area - Count Potocki, water was drained from the third lake to make it easier to fish. By the lakes there is a symbolic tomb of a young forester who died here in 1990.
